What is Expungement?

Your criminal record is physically removed from the SAPS data base and no background checks will be able to pick it up.It is as it never existed. This is made possible by an amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act (51 of 1977) through the Criminal Procedure Amendment Act (65 of 2008) which came into force on 6 May 2009.
